What some have called 'the last Tiki bar in Indiana'. The unfortunately main dining room wasn't open the day we were there. It seems more of a neighborhood buffet these days- but you can still get a drink in a Tiki mug.
49 Mercator Dr., Greenwood, Indiana
Here's a fabulous picture of the room we missed-

A visit to the Kahiki Outlet store (and plant for frozen Kahiki treats) in Columbus, Ohio. Update- the Kahiki outlet closed in 2006, although the factory itself as well as some artifacts, George- the fountain, and the buiding's paint job live on.

Re-edited Feb 2006- Sadly I must now change this description, whereas I once said- "Go to Augusta, GA! You'll be glad you did!", I can now only say, go to Augusta, GA, and raise a glass to the remains of the once mighty Hale Tiki!
Hale Tiki was one of the finest examples of a 'modern' Tiki establishment, the build out was done by TikiCentral Ohana, and Brad the Beachcomber once served allowed us to partake of the "concubines" here- the 'concubine' being the house drink, that is!
Alas, The Hale Tiki closed its doors Feb 24th 2006.
From the original description-
"The Hale Tiki is beyond words. We visited after it had been open roughly 9 months to find Tiki perfection in GA, believe it or not! Our fine hosts, the music, the mixology, the space, and all the hard work that's gone into it- it was all we could do to stare in blissful wonderment! A small cadre of Tiki Centralites spent an insane few days building this modern Temple- and in every way imaginable- they got it right!
The Hale Tiki is a perfect 10; a standard against which other modern Tiki Temples can be judged."

Although not Tiki, the entire resort will be of intrest to Tikiphiles due to its pretext of golden age of travel (think Pan Am and Matson Lines) to exotic lands. I hope to write a review and scan a few pictures eventually.

This is a tribute page the the Hawaii Kai which held the original Lounge of the Seven Pleasures as but one of several rooms within the complex. To understand our bar- and love for all things Tiki, one must first study the Hawaii Kai- alongside other such Temples now gone.

While there's another surprise in here, the absolute highlight of our trip through Calgary was an all too short evening spent with Slacks Ferret, a real Artist, with a deep love for all things Tiki. Best of all though, he's a keeper of Tiki secrets! I can't wait to see how his home space comes along- he has ideas percolating, and is slowly amassing all the components for one heck of a home bar. Stay tuned to his 'creating' thread over on TikiCentral to see what he's up to- http://www.tikiroom.com/tikicentral/bb/viewtopic.php?topic=7716&forum=7&hilite=slacks%20ferret

A portion of the local tribe gathered for an `Aina ahiahi (or "Evening meal") at Fins. Afterwards some of us traveled up to Baltimore for a Fraternal Order of Moai (http://www.fraternalorderofmoai.org) Meet and Greet hosted at Turbogod's Tacky Techie Tiki Bar" where we were happily joined by still more folks.

A few pictures documenting Chef Kwok's Duck Carving tableside ritual and a few of the drinks at the Shanghai Village in Bethesda, MD. SV is legendary in its own right, and one of the few remaining Maryland outposts of genuine Tiki exotic cocktail mixology.
